Exam Structure at a Glance
RRB NTPC is conducted in two computer-based stages (CBT 1 and CBT 2), followed by typing skill test or document verification depending on the post. Both stages test Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and General Awareness.
Mathematics: Build Speed With Basics
Number System, Percentage, Ratio-Proportion, Time-Speed-Distance and Simple-Compound Interest form the core of the Maths section. Since CBT 1 has strict time limits, practising mental calculation shortcuts saves valuable seconds per question.
General Intelligence & Reasoning
Analogies, coding-decoding, syllogism and puzzle-based questions dominate this section. Regular practice with varied puzzle types builds the pattern recognition needed to solve unfamiliar questions quickly on exam day.
General Awareness: Railways-Specific Focus
Along with standard GK, RRB exams often include questions related to Indian Railways history, current railway projects and government schemes. Following railway-specific news alongside general current affairs gives an edge in this section.
CBT 2 Difficulty Jump
CBT 2 is noticeably tougher than CBT 1 and has fewer vacancies relative to applicants at this stage, so treating CBT 1 as only a qualifying round and preparing CBT 2-level difficulty from the start is a smarter long-term approach.
Sectional Mock Tests Are Key
Because negative marking applies, taking sectional mocks to identify which topics cause the most errors — rather than only tracking overall score — helps target revision more effectively in the final weeks.
