Why This Section Decides Your Score
Child Development and Pedagogy (CDP) carries 30 out of 150 marks in CTET and similar weightage in most State TETs, yet it is often the most neglected section because aspirants assume it is "just common sense." In reality, it tests specific theories and terminology.
Know Your Theorists
Piaget's stages of cognitive development, Vygotsky's socio-cultural theory, and Kohlberg's moral development stages are asked repeatedly in different phrasings. Understanding the core idea behind each theory matters more than memorising dates or names alone.
Inclusive Education Concepts
Questions on children with learning difficulties, gifted children, and inclusive classroom practices are increasingly common. Familiarise yourself with terms like dyslexia, dyscalculia and the RTE Act's inclusive education provisions.
Language and Learning
Questions about language acquisition, the role of the first language in the classroom, and multilingual teaching approaches appear frequently, especially referencing NCF 2005 recommendations.
Practice With Application-Based Questions
CDP questions are rarely direct definitions — they usually present a classroom scenario and ask which pedagogical approach fits best. Solving previous year papers is the most effective way to get comfortable with this scenario-based format.
A Simple Study Approach
Cover one theorist or concept per day, immediately followed by 15-20 practice questions on that exact topic. This immediate application locks in the concept far better than reading multiple chapters before practising any questions.
